Larry Taunton, historian and specialist in Christian apologetics, debates leading atheistic writers, while maintaining a friendly relationship with them. His debate opponents show woeful misconceptions about real Christianity and Christian history. He says Christianity is the only religion to offer grace to fallen mankind.

Taunton compares the results of grace in America to conditions in cultures denying God’s existence. He posits grace as saving grace and common grace. Theologian Louis Berkhof defines common grace:..“curbs the destructive power of sin, maintains in a measure the moral order of the universe, the making of an orderly life possible, distributes in varying degrees gifts and talents among men, promotes the development of science and art and showers untold blessings to the children of men.”

These attributes disappear from atheistic countries. Although the US is in danger of losing our Christian focus, Taunton says we’re still under God’s grace due to believers’ influences.

The Taunton family journey to adopt a special needs child, Sasha, from the Ukraine where atheism has destroyed decency, honesty, caring and cooperation. Months of bureaucratic hassles, subtle demands for bribes and power-seeking officials delay approval of Sasha’s adoption and permission to leave for theUSA.

When Sasha is finally allowed to leave the Ukraine, three US agencies, one in Atlanta and two in Europe, must approve her visa to America. Friendly, courteous officials expedite that entire process in only one week.

As Taunton and his wife learn about conditions in theUkraine and what Sasha’s life had been, they see more degradation from atheism. For example, orphanage children don’t even have toilet paper while using a hole in the ground in an open public space. Many other inhumane conditions exist for people in theUkraine.

This well-written book provides suspense, surprises and satisfaction.
